Tony Meakin - Round Alone

Bob,

The problem is that Sader didn't carry the chain plate fixings far enough down the bulkhead. They can only be torn out however by serious abuse such as a very viciose jibb or the mast hitting a bridge. Cariad had had the chain plates torn out of the deck by Island Cruising Club so the bulkhead fixings were not original and just epoxyed in coach screws. So I made up the frame to tie the chain plates to the keel. This has worked but Mike Lucas's extending the chainplates down the bulkhead and adittional fixings may be neater and less expensive.

concerning structural issues on Sadler 34 I found this note from Mike Lucas :

however your solution :

looks much more elaborate, could you add some comments ?
Thank you,
Bob

Anshul,
I agree and would only have gone if you were going, also the visa for India is now £75. Two years ago it was a quarter of the price. Give my regards to Alan and we could try next year. In the mean time I will try to ski in Italy.

Ken,
I do know what it can be like in an English winter as I was here in 1963 and very cold it was. CARIAD has had a bit of ice around her but not iced on the canal at Lydney as the Seven estuary is there to keep Bristoland you warm.

howdy tony!  back in canada now.  made it just in time to enjoy the frozen wasteland that is my home province.  somehow i was around long enough to ride the ten speed /one day/ before the snow came.  but still a great journey for me.

after sailing to the isle of wight from horta, i managed to to become first mate on a delivery from les sables d'olonne to tortola in the BVI, arriving in september.  not the ideal time of year to cross,  but no big trouble!

great to have met you and thanks again for the book.  i left it with matty my skipper on flying cloud, and since he's to sail south at some point in the next couple years i'm certain he'll appreciate it as much as i did.  thanks again and i look forward to perhaps running into you in another port.  they do say that sailors always meet again.

Anshul,
Iam very keen to ski Gulmarg again. When and what accomadation. My visa may be out and my passport has change since the last visit. This Bomby shot out may also cause a visa delay so let me know ASAP. Wonder if we could see another Snow Leopard, may be have a good camera this time.

Hi Tony,

Congrats! I've always felt very safe sailing on VLCC's. You've taken a lot of risks & been successful! Alan & I are wondering if it will be safe to go skiing to Gulmarg this season.
