Tony, I've been trying to e-mail you for a while but the address you've listed comes back as no such user on a yahoo account.
Sorry I missed your call the other week. I'll text you Steve Watkins' phone number in the meantime. I'll also pass the message on to Steve Williams but he'll need a working e-mail address.
Well done getting to Aus!
Ricky.

All,
Have arrived in Noumea, (French) New Calidonia after 11 days at sea due to lack of suiable winds. It's a completely different sort of place from Fiji with Noumea not unreasonably compared to Paris for style and ambiance. the climate is the same as the south of France in late spring, but continues all the year round. The Islands and reefs are unspoilled with only a few people. French citizens are flocking here to join the good life.

James,
Made it to New Cal. very slowly. Set off with Roy but he had to get Laura back to Aus. for 19/5/06 so he just put the motor on when the wind was duff. I met El Cadero at sea and got in the day before Ken and Vidia so I wasn't hanging about. We saw Roy off this morning on his way to Bundaburge. Sounds like your having a good time hope Rebeca  isn't working to hard.

Good luck
Tony

All the best Tony on your passage to Australia.  I'm sure cold drinking water and moderately fresh veg have added a certain spice to Cariad's menu now that there’s a frige!  I'll be making a similar trip in June from Savusavu to Bundaberg or thereabouts.  Here in Sydney at the moment and am enjoying regatta crewing on the Harbour.  It's a different breed of sailor here.  James

To All
The cyclone season is almost over”we think” so hope to set off for Australia (Bundaburgh)  via Ovalau, Suva and New Calidonia (Numea) during the next week. Hope you are all well and looking forward to the summer.

The boat is now much improved. Fridge (for cold water and beer etc) plus the additional solar panel to drive it. Inside I have fitted a new table book shelves, modified the rigging frame fitted an inverter, fan , autopilot, sun awnings and put the port berth back into use so I can always sleep on the downwind side (so I don’t fall out).
Horrible dinghy has been de-horribbilized by fitting the old Stargazer fenders as a flotation collar , The blue warps are in constant use and your red chisel was used in the construction of the tables and book shelves. Best wishes to you all at Goodrich.

Ricky and the Evans family
The ipod accessories and additional music are a big improvement. But I’ve lost the digital camera so it will have to be prints till I can get a new one in Australia. My computer is running OK with a new inverter to power it. Is it possible to email me Steve Watkins address in Australia ( try Jim Thorpe, and the Watkins family at Corras Farm and along the river Monnow). Good luck with all your projects, Sue thank you for all the help when I was over in February without you running me around my legs would be 3” shorter. Jamie enjoy your instructors training course. Jack your cartoons are great (I still re-read your Farwell card) , by the way I haven’t got Scurvy but have conjunctivitis like the rest of Fiji, keep up the cartoons.

Matt
The picture of Lotte on my chart table is getting a bit out of date, can you email a recent one?? Hope you and Anna are OK and your cars are bump free. Please let all at the Till know I’m moving on again. Try to get this book from Hay or the library “An island to ones self” by Tom Neil. It’s about Suwarrow/Suvarov the island I visited in July.

Recent problems with the local customs office trying to bring in new rules without a change in the law or even putting it in writing has resulted in an outbreak of  Meakinism and work for the British High Commission, Outcome was successful so the yachts coming in this crewsing season which is just starting will not have additional  restrictions and Fijians will be able to come on the boats.
This is a good place for a holiday if you want to get away from Aus.

Keith and Pam
Hope your getting  on with the work on Two easy ready for a June start. I still don’t know if I’m returning via the Caribbean or the Azores. A lot depends on how I feel and if Cariad is up to 2 additional Atlantic crossings.
Could you tell the manager at Force 4 that the inverter had 2 duff FEDS , Michael fixed it. I have written to Sterling requesting $50 Fijian for parts and labor and returned the defective FEDS. Can you and he chase this up as the unit was duff when it left Taiwan.
A check on the solar panel outputs was  2.8 + 3.9 + 4.4 = 12.1  at 10am so the leisure battery is handling it OK.

Yes it was a nasty hurracne that hit Aus. but it was 1500 miles from me. The effect here has been to raise the pressure and reduce the humidity so we are having hot sun and a cool breeze. Still a bit hot at night but great for varnishing. Hope to go for a sail to Koro at the weekend as our forcast is still good with Aus. having the only threat of a TRS in early April.
Hope to set off for Bundaburgh mid April subject to met. forcast.

Hi Tony,

Possibly a very silly query, but might keep you amused.  I'm trying to get in contact with a Tony Meakin who boxed as an amateur for the RAF in the early 1970s.  I noticed your expeditionary tendencies and also that you might be around the correct age, so have put 2 and 2 together to get about 7!  Perhaps you could let me know if you are the same person (or if not, whether you are related to another Tony Meakin)?  Reason is that I'm putting together a biography on a boxer who fought the RAF's Tony Meakin, hence the desire to get in contact.  If you can help, my e-mail address is oli_jarratt (at) hotmail.com .  And best of luck with your trip!

Kind regards,

Oliver

It was great seeing you at Newport Uskmouth Sailing Club. Your talk was much enjoyed by the Members.
Hope you missed the recent hurricane(?) which hit Queensland.

Will be back on Sunday or Monday. This morning there was ice on the water around the boat in Bristol docks but the heating works well so we are all warm and dry. Sounds like Savusavu is still hot unlike Korea where I stop off which was -15 C a month ago.
